Effect of Concentration on Osmosis Essay -- GCSE Biology Osmosis Cours
found of Concentration on OsmosisAimTo find break through how the engrossment of saccharose result affects the mussinessof the white tater poker chip left in the resolve for peerless day.PredictionI assure that when the sucrose concentration is downhearted the potato chip give gain mass. This is because there exit be a higher sucroseconcentration in the potato chip so irrigate will go into the potato fromthe solving. I predict that when there is a high concentration ofsucrose the potato will lose mass. This is because there is a higherconcentration of sucrose solution in the solution compared to that inthe potato chip so pee from the potato will go into the solution toeven it out.Osmosis is the movement of a solvent through a selectively semipermeablemembrane (as of a living mobile phone) into a solution of higher soluteconcentration that tends to equalize the concentrations of solute onthe two sides of the membraneOsmosis is the movement of weewee from high water concentration tolower water concentration through a selectively permeable membrane.Selectively permeable membranesare very thin layers of material (cellmembranes are selectively-permeable), which give some whits to reap through them but prevent other molecules from breathing out through.Cell membranes will allow small molecules alike(p) Oxygen, water, CarbonDioxide, Ammonia, Glucose, amino-acids, and so on to pass through. Cellmembranes will not allow larger molecules like Sucrose, Starch, protein, etc. to pass through. In my experiment I will hold in a test tube with a potato chip in. The extraneous wall of the potato chip is selectively permeable so it letswater pass through it but not bigger molecules such as sucrose. In thetest tubes I will put different concentrations of sucrose solution. When the concentration of the solution is lower than that in thepotato, water will pass through the selectively permeable wall into thepotato.Potato cellsSucrose solutionThe mass of the po tato chip increasesSucrose moleculeWater moleculeWhen the sucrose solution is stronger outside if the potato chip waterwill move out from the potato chip into the solution. When the concentration is the same on both sides of the selectivelypermeable wall nothing passes through it and the mass will stay thesame.PlanApparatusFive test tubesLabelsswayerScalesTissue... ...hips in each test tube. This would make it more accurate as when Ihad two in a test tube if mavin of them was a long way out it made thegraph not follow the line well when I plotted the averages. There was one nonsensical result at 0.5 mol. I think this was because wepatted them dry when we got them out of the test tubes as we did notwant to weigh there water on the outside of the potato but I thinkthat we may not have dried them all equally so this anomalous resultmay have been due to it having water left on the outside of it.Also the potato itself was not from the same part of the potato andwas not exactly the same size, although I did try to cut them to 36mmeach.I could also try the same experiment but with different volumes ofcell tissues and ensure if the percentage change differed with a biggerand smaller develop area.I could now investigate the smaller range near to 0.25 to trance thesucrose concentration equivalent to the potato. Finally, I could extend the experiment to a more exact level bylooking at the potato cylinders under a microscope, then I would beable to see the cells in greater detail and draw some more empirical results.
